There is no such thing as a universal umbrella

Like your wardrobe, designer umbrellas come in different sizes and styles. Certain attributes are more appropriate than others depending on the situation and individual owner. An umbrella that is splashed with loud colors and a vivid pattern is not the least bit proper for a murky December evening. You would not be caught dead wearing flannel in lieu of cotton at a summer wedding, correct? Designer umbrellas need proper thought before purchasing.

Begin with the size of your designer umbrella

A big umbrella is inherently more cumbersome than its more compact brethren. One has to carry the extra weight and at times avoid contact with a passer by when the walking path gets crowded. However, a large umbrella keeps you most definitely dry with ample cover from the wetter elements. Thinking more romantically, the big umbrella allows perfect cover for two and no more while you are on your trip to that concert downtown. A regular big umbrella is also classic, something you are supposed to own. A small umbrella is incredibly convenient. You can easily store it in your messenger bag, purse or canvas tote while on the run. It is not too heavy or too long. When you enter inside, a small umbrella may be placed on a table or underneath you without hindrance. The sacrifice you make with a compact umbrella is the area of protection you give up versus a larger one. At times rain will splash you or not keep all the rain off your back. When the wind blows, you will get wetter as well.

Colors and styles

Picking designer umbrellas color should not be difficult. For conservative owners, stick to the basic color palettes which go with all of your clothes and are suitable for every season. This means sticking to black, navy and all shades of gray. As for patterns or stripes, stay clear of anything aggressive. Subtle pinstripes or easy going plaids and graphic motifs that are classic or muted (this means no Jolly Rogers or hemp flowers). More adventurous owners will want to pick a few umbrellas to have for various occasions. Try pastels and louder variants for the warmer months and more somber combinations when the days get shorter. Don't always stick to the generic rules. Grab a white umbrella for the a winter white effect and a medium purple shade during your April. It also makes sense to carry a small umbrella for the warmer months, possibly doubling as a beach umbrella and a classic big umbrella as you head into murkier days. Keep in mind your own personality as well. Let people know your favorite color is green, yellow or red and wear it proudly on a red umbrella. It is much harder to pull off these colors in your normal wardrobe, so look forward to using designer umbrellas as a way to complete your outfit and keep you dry.
